Prefer a “cut your own” adventure? Purchase a Christmas tree permit from the Black Hills National Forest (online at Recreation.gov) and cut your own ponderosa pine, spruce, or juniper tree in the forest. Permits cost around $10 (plus a fee) and are available from mid-November through the week before Christmas. recreation.gov
